Welcome, class of ’05

This vivid memory, disguised as a wish sometimes,
of waiting for my class to be over,
of walking to your school
and looking at your smile when you see me,
strenghtens me every time.

Now that I hear your voice again after a year of absence,
with this atrabilious music playing in the background,
with my hands holding on to the glass of red wine,
I wonder why I fell out of love.

I didn’t really think about you this past year,
only twice a fortnight and every other day.
I’ve only sent an email or two
but they’ve all bounced back anyway.

Now that I see your face again after a year of absence,
with former friends laughing around us,
with a look a blind would understand,
I wonder why I fell out of love.

This heartfelt wish disguised as a memory sometimes,
of holding you in my arms,
of telling you my love
and kissing you goodbye before we leave,
weakens me every time.
