Love

It’s gone. This morning when I woke up
I noticed it’s vanished into thin air –
like the smell of cinnamon subtly disappears
out of the streets the day after Christmas.

How can I force myself to get out of bed?
It’s gone. Sometime in the last hours a dream,
or a nightmare maybe, must’ve taken it away
without leaving any trace, without inhibition.

The one thing that made me get up.
It’s gone. Escaped from my heart and left
a black hole in my mind. There’s no tiny bit
left – not even echoes going unheard.

It’s gone. This morning when I woke up
I noticed it’s vanished into thin air –
I should’ve seen it coming: you hurt it
way too much these last few days.
